Queenslands Outback Safaris to Sites in Queensland, Australia 4-WD Safaris to the best sites in Queensland
The Tropical North, (Far North Queensland,) has a large variety of spectacular destinations to offer. This is particularly true of the Cairns and Port Douglas area, home to the world's renowned Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation. Further afield lie the Atherton Tablelands and the volcanic Lava Tubes of Undara.

If your preference is for a more private tour with a hands-on experience of the local attractions as opposed to crowded tourist buses, then this is your site. From the first moment you meet Pete, you will realise that your day will hold something different, more exciting and unusual.
Back Over the years, Pete has discovered some of the most beautiful and remote places in the region. Privacy and adventure are guaranteed, as you by-pass the crowded tourist areas. You can expect the wild and the wonderful; in fact, Nature unspoilt!

The number of guests is limited to a maximum of 6 persons. Quality and personal service are our aim. Select your own destination or let Pete create a real Australian adventure, suited to your needs and requirements.

No matter which option you choose, you will have no regrets. You need only a sense of adventure; a desire to meet Nature head on and a sunny attitude, -- don't forget your swimming gear.

These tours are suited to families (children love the ochre face-painting, climbing and swinging), and to travellers with special interests.

Daintree/Cape Tribulation & Bloomfield Falls (Day Tour)

Through his years of experience, Pete knows the rainforest like his own back yard. He will guide you "off the beaten track" to some of the most beautiful and remote places in the area. Experience the rainforest hands-on; touch, sample and experience things that you have never seen or touched before. Pete, a master of survival and an experienced leader, will gladly share the secrets of this unique and fascinating region.
Enjoy a refreshing swim in a secluded freshwater creek or visit one of the beautiful beaches, known to only a select few. Take a seat on one of Pete's "soft rocks" and enjoy your delicious, home-made lunch. For those staying in Port Douglas or its environs, Pete offers the possibility of expanding the tour to include the scenic Bloomfield Falls.

The Atherton Tablelands (Day Tour)

Atherton Tablelands
View Slideshow
The Atherton Tablelands are located about 60-90 minutes drive west of Cairns/Port Douglas. This area forms the transition between the tropical rainforest and the Outback. Fertile dairy country, spectacular waterfalls and beautiful lakes are only some of the many attractions of the Tablelands. It is also home to the much photographed fig trees, the "Curtain Fig" and the "Cathedral Fig".
With luck you may encounter some of the local wildlife, e.g. Platypus, Wallaby and Dingo. Off the beaten track, you can find the beautiful and spectacular Granite Gorge. Hundreds of enormous granite boulders lie scattered throughout the area, forming unusual rock formations.

Feed the resident Rock Wallabies and enjoy a refreshing swim in one of the many water holes. Take advantage of the refreshment breaks and enjoy the delicious home-made lunch.

The Outback (Day Tour)
The Tropical North allows you the unique opportunity of visiting the Rainforest and the Outback without having to travel large distances. The Outback borders the Atherton Tablelands on its west. Experience the mostly gravel roads of the Outback and allow Pete to show you some the area's most scenic attractions. Visit the limestone caves at Chillagoe. Enjoy spectacular views on the way, particularly the unique "Balancing Rock", which appears to defy the laws of gravity. See Mt. Mulligan, (the north's Ayers Rock and scene of Queensland's worst mine disaster) or visit the stamping battery of the historic Tyrconnell goldmine, maintained by Andrew Bell. Accompany Cate Harley on an interpretive walk around the property.

If you prefer the genuine Outback and you are interested in the history of the local Aboriginals, then you should not miss a visit to Laura or Jowalbinna. Stay overnight in an original, Australian Bushcamp.
Jowalbinna is home to the most beautiful and well preserved aboriginal rock paintings in North Queensland. (Guided tours can be arranged). Kangaroos are plentiful and you may have the opportunity to observe some of the local wallabies and Dingoes.

This remote tour takes you across endless Outback roads, past huge termite mounds, and far from civilisation.

Cooktown (Day Tour/Extended Tour)

Cooktown is named after Captain James Cook, who had to beach there approx. 200 years ago to repair his damaged ship. The historic town is located approximately 4 hour's drive north of Cairns. Travel back in time; and, every June, experience the re-enactment of his landing. Visit the mysterious granite blocks that form the eerie Black Mountains (Erosion created numerous holes and caves). Local rumour has it that people, even herds of cattle have simply disappeared, never to be seen again.
Grassy Hill offers fantastic views over Cooktown, the Endeavour River and the Coral Sea. Visit the famous museum and the historic cemetery.
If you are interested in expanding the tour a little, it is advisable to stay overnight in Cooktown.

'Coloured Sands' lie to the north. These spectacular coloured rocks and cliffs stretch along kilometres of coastline and are only accessible during low tide.

Undara Lava Tubes & Cobbold Gorge (2-3 Days)

Undara Lava Tube
View Slideshow
West of the Atherton Tablelands lies Undara, home to the famous Lava Tubes. These underground caves originate from the time, when the area hosted several active volcanoes. The cooling lava left lengthy tunnels. Some of these "caves" are open to the public and are accessible by guided tour only.
Stay in the refurbished turn-of-the-century railway carriages or the budget camp site. Approx. 260km southwest of Undara lies another, less well-known attraction - the Cobbold Gorge. This is accessible only by 4WD-Vehicle.
A photographer's dream, this beautiful Gorge is best explored via the guided boat cruise. The peace and the remoteness of the Gorge compensates for the long trip. Enjoy the sounds of the bush, far from any civilisation. Cabin accommodation is available.
